Heer Ranjha (1932) was the first ever Punjabi film in the Indian subcontinent which was made in Lahore. It was the first ever talkie film from Lahore as well.
Producer of this inaugural Punjabi film was Hakeem Ram Prashad, who was the owner of Capital Cinema Lahore.
Abdur Rasheed Kardar or A.R. Kardar was first Punjabi film director.
Anwari Begum and Rafiq Ghaznavi - the grand parents of Salma Agha - played title roles in this memorable film. Rafiq Ghaznavi was a famous musician in the 30s and 40s and Anwari Begum appeared in many films.
M. Ismael played the famous "Kaido" role and Lala Yaqoob played the "Saida Khera" role.
