M. Ismael appeared in the first ever Lahore made silent film The Daughter of Today in 1924 (but released in 1928). He was seen in many Bombay-made Hindi/Urdu movies before partition. His leading roles as Yamla Jatt (1940) and Khazanchi (1941) were super hit roles.
In Pakistan, M. Ismael was seen in 176 movies and mostly in the character actor roles. He received President Award in his Urdu film Qismat in 1956. His last film was Maan Jawani Da in 1976.
M. Ismael was born in 1902 in a Jeweler family in Lahore. He was a talented art designer and calligrapher as well. He died on November 22, 1975.
