Mohammad Rafi was first playback singer in the history of India and Pakistan. He became a standard-voice for male singing in the sub-continents films.
Rafi's first song was a duet with Zeenat Begum in a Lahore-made Punjabi film Gul Baloch in 1944. It was filmed on Gul Zaman and Salma. Music composer was Sheyam Sundar and lyricist could be Mohammad Shafi or Ashiq.

Mohammad Rafi sang his first Hindi/Urdu song in film Gaun Ki Gori (1945) and got breakthrough from film Jugnu (1947). He dominated in the 1950-60.
Mohammad Rafi was born on December 24, 1924 in Amritsar, Indian Punjab and died on July 31, 1980 in Mumbai.
