A story of a Mughal Prince based on Imtiaz Ali Taj novel from 1922..
The film story
The singing talent of Nadira (Noor Jahan), the daughter of a Kabul merchant, was honed by one of Akbar's luminaries, "Tan Sen", and presented in the court of Akbar at the "Jashn-e-Mahatabi" where her brilliant singing earned her the title of "Anarkali".
In the same gathering, Prince Salim (Sudhir) becomes crazy about Anarkali's (Noor Jahan) art as well as her beauty, but due to the jealousy of a slave girl "Dil Aram" (Ragini), the performance of Anarkali in the "Jashn-e-Naubahar" by giving her alcohol becomes a punishment for her and she is thrown in prison for this insolence.
Emperor Akbar (Himalaya Wala) pardons Anarkali's punishment and agrees to return to Kabul, but Prince Salim attacks the caravan and frees Anarkali, but is captured. Anarkali and Prince Salim are held responsible for the rebellion and murder and both are sentenced to death.
Anarkali is chosen in the wall, but it is not up to any official to sentence Prince Salim to death. Akbar himself tries to separate his son's head from his body, but is forced by paternal passion and becomes helpless. On the advice of the courtiers, both are forgiven.
Emperor Akbar forgives Anarkali, but Dil Aram finishes Anarkali's work with one arrow and this love story is immortalized.
