Devdas

Devdas (Habib) is a feudal lord's son, loves a poor girl Paro (Shamim Ara). Due to differences in class and wealth, they could not marry and Paro marries an old man. However Devdas cannot forget Paro and to succumbs to the bubbly bottle. A prostitute, Chandramukhi (Nayyar Sultana) tries to make him forget his past. But soon he runs away and goes to meet Paro, he dies in front of her house.

This film was based on a famous Bengali novel "Devdas" by Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay (1876–1938) which he wrote in 1901 when he was 25. But he could not find a publisher till 1917..
