The Hindi/Urdu title of this film was Prem Sanyas.

The first ever Lahore made film, which was also the first ever German-Indian Co-production. It was the first ever Indian film to be commercially shown abroad.


Plot

This film was based on the poem Light of Asia by Edwin Arnold. The film tells the story of Buddha from his birth, how he is brought up in the midst of royal entourage and resplendence, his marriage and later renunciation of the world and earthly belongings.
