Saeed Gilani was introduced in film Dil aur Dunya (1971), and wrote a super hit song in his debut. "Champa Aur Chambeli, Yeh Kalia Neyi Naveli.." This song was composed by Kemal Ahmad and sung by Runa Laila.

He was known for his super hit song "Sona Na Chandi, Na Koi Mahal, Jan-e-Man.." sung by Akhlaq Ahmad in film Bandish (1980). He wrote another super hit song "Janu Sun Zara.." in film Jeeva (1995) which gave breakthrough to Anwar Rafi. His another song in film Sakhi Badshah (1996) "Ki Dam Da Bharos Yaar, Dam Away Na Away.." was the last super hit song sung by Madam Noor Jehan.

Syed Ahmad Shah Gilani (Saeed Gilani) was born in 1938 in Peshawar, his mother tongue was Hindko, and he wrote songs in Urdu, Punjabi and Pashto languages. He died on April 5, 2021 in Peshawar.
