The elder statesman of Qawwali and one of its great exponents, Ustad Manzoor Ahmed Khan Niazi passed away on April 9, 2013 at the age of 98. He was the cousin of Munshi Raziuddin and part of the legendary Qawwal Bachon ka Gharana that draws its lineage back to Hazrat Ameer Khusrau who is said to have originated qawwali in the 14th century.
