His was introduced as lyricist in Karachi made golden jubilee hit film Banjaran (1962). His first film as story and dialogue writer was an another golden jubilee film Heera aur Pathar in 1964. The first Urdu platinum jubilee film Armaan (1966) was one of his all time super hit film. His other famous movies with super hit songs were Shararat (1963), Aisa Bhi Hota Hay (1965), Badnam (1966), Ehsan, Doraha, (1967), Saiqa (1968), Soughat, Naseeb Apna Apna (1970), Tum Salamat Raho (1974), Pehchan, Jab Jab Phool Khilay, Rastay Ka Pathar (1975) and many more..
Masroor Anwar was producer of film Shadi Meray Shohar Ki (1986) and director of film Aisa Bhi Hota Hay (1984).
