Nisar Bazmi

Although he never got any recognition in his native country - India, where he composed music for 26 Hindi/Urdu movies from 1946 till 1961, but his fortune changed dramatically when he migrate to Pakistan in 1962, which was then "A Land of Hopes and Opportunities" for hundreds of thousands of Indian, Bengali and Afghan immigrants.

Bazmi sahib's first assignment was director Fazli's Aisa Bhi Hota Hay (1965). The song:

• Ho Tamanna Aur Kya, Jan-e-Tamanna Aap Hayn.. (Noorjahan)

was a hit song from his inaugural film, but it was recorded after 19 re-takes!

It was very difficult to satisfy Mr. Bazmi, because he never compromised on the quality. Khan Sahib Mehdi Hassan's super hit Ghazal in film Mohabbat (1972):

• Ranjish Hi Sahi, Dil Hi Dukhanay Kay Liya Aa..

finally was recorded after 18 re-takes!

It was also Nisar Bazmi who rejected two songs from two legendry singers - Madam Noorjahan and Mehdi Hassan in movies Umrao Jan Ada and Shama aur Parwana, respectively.

Nisar Bazmi's big musical movies were Lakhon Mein Ek and Aag (1967), Saiqa and Taj Mahal (1968), Andaleeb and Naaz (1969), Anjuman (1970), Tehzeeb (1971), Umrao Jan Ada, Mohabbat and Naag Munni (1972), Anmol and Aas (1973), Pehchan (1975), Talash (1976). His last film was Very Good Dunya Very Bad Log (1998).

Nisar Bazmi was born in Indian state of Maharashtra in Khandesh, Naseerabad near Mumbai on December 1, 1924. He died on March 23, 2007 at Karachi.
