Akhtar Yousuf was the second successful lyricist from Dacca made Urdu films from ex-East Pakistan, now Bangladesh. He got breakthrough from super hit film Chakori (1967). He migrated to Pakistan after the Fall of Dacca in 1971. His first film in nowadays Pakistan was Ehsas (1972). His most super hit song was "Sawan Aye, Sawan Jaye.." in film Chahat (1974). He was director of film Sawan Aya, Tum Nahin Aye in 1974.

Akhtar Yousuf was born in Calcutta, India in 1935 and died in Karachi in 1989.
