Waheed Murad became a super star romantic film hero after the release of mega hit musical and romantic film Armaan in 1966. It was the first ever Urdu platinum jubilee film in Karachi. It was produced and wrote by himself. His romantic acting and songs with Zeba were as a sweet dream and unforgettable scenes for youngster cine gores from the golden era of Pakistani film history.
Waheed Murad started as film producer with Insan Badalta Hay in 1961. He was seen as supporting actor in film Aulad in 1962 and became hero from film Heera aur Pathar in 1964. Kaneez (1965), Insaniyat, Dever Bhabhi (1967), Dil Mera Dharkan Teri (1968), Salgira, Andaleeb (1969), Anjuman (1970), Neend Hamari Khawab Tumharay, Mastana Mahi (1971) and Baharo Phool Barsao (1972) were some of his big movies. His peak period as a dominant romantic Urdu film hero was from 1965-73 and then as a supporting hero from 1974-79, where he shared more than two dozens movies with Mohammad Ali. Shama (1974) and Jab Jab Phool Khilay (1975) were some of big movies from this period. His only diamond jubilee film Shabana (1976) was shared with Shahid. His last film was Zalzla in 1987.
Waheed Murad was born in Sialkot on October 2, 1938. He was Masters in English literature and his father was an Indian film distributor. He was married to Salma Murad and his son Adil Murad was seen in a single film Raja Sahib (1996). He died on November 23, 1983 in Karachi and was buried in Lahore.
