She started as Baby Noor Jehan in film Pind di Kurri (1935), She was heroine in film Khandan (1942) in the age of just 16 years old. Other famous films were Zeenat, Anmol Gharhi, Jugnu, Noukar, Dost, Mirza Sahiba, Lal Haveli...

The Golden Era of Pakistani film history when Madam Noorjehan became playback singer after a glorious acting and singing career from 1935-61. Mousiqar & Ghunghat (1962), Baji (1963), Sawaal (1966), Lakhon mein ek (1967), Salgira (1968), Andleeb (1969) were some big musical Urdu movies and there was big competition from Naseem Begum, Mala and Runa Laila.

Despite a big competition from Naseem Begum, Mala and Runa Laila, Madam Noorjehan became a top playback singer in Punjabi films. She got breakthrough from film Phannay Khan & Malangi in 1965 and dominated from 1967 till her sickness in 1997. Laado (1966), Dil da Jani & Mirza Jatt (1967), Jumma Junj naal (1968), Dillan de soudey & Dhee Rani (1969) were some big musical movies in this period.

Madam Noreen suffered a setback against Naheed Akhtar and Mehnaz in the mid 70's. She was mostly preferred in Punjabi films in this period. Dost (1971), Nag Mini (1972), Damn aur Chingari (1973) and Phalli Nazar were some big musical Urdu movies.

The Ghazal King Mehdi Hassan never became a demand of Punjabi movies but he sang two all time mega hit duets with Madam Noorjehan in Punjabi films Sassi Punnu (1969) and Duniya Paisay di (1971). Most of their Punjabi duets were hit as well.

Madam Noorjehan & Masood Rana (Urdu duets)
Madam Noorjehan sang the highest numbers of her duets with Masood Rana, who was the most versatile male singer in both Urdu and Punjabi movies. Meray Mehboob (1966), Chand Suraj (1970), Daaman aur Chingari (1973) and Deedar (1974) were some memorable musical Urdu movies of this pair.

Like Madam Noorjehan, Masood Rana was a totally dominating male singer in Punjabi movies. Nikkay hundian da pyar & Dhee Rani (1969) Hukm da Ghulam (1976), Ishq nachaway Gali Gali (1984) and Pyar karn tun nain darna (1991) were some big Punjabi musical movies of this pair.

Film & singing career (1935-2000)

Madam Noorjehan was the greatest film and music personality in the history of showbiz in Pakistan.

She started her film career in the age of just nine years old in film Sheeal (Pind di Kurri - 1935) and became super star as baby artist. She was heroine in Punjabi film Yamla Jatt (1940) and was a top singer and actress in Indian movies in the 40s. After the partition in 1947, she moved from Bombay and started her film career in Pakistan as actress, singer and the first female film director with film Chann Way in 1951. Her last film as actress Ghalib was released in 1961.

Watch & listen to Madam NoorjehanSince 1959 she became playback singer and dominated in more than 35 years. She sang appropriately more than six thousand songs in Urdu, Punjabi and Sindhi films.

She married twice, first with film director Shoukat Hussain Rizvi in 1942 and then film producer and hero Ejaz Durrani in 1959 and she had six children's.

Madam Noorjehan was born in a very poor family on September 21, 1926 at Qasoor, Punjab and died on December 23, 2000 at Karachi as one of the richest woman in the country.
