Yasmin started as Zarina Reshma in film Jahad 1950 and played side roles in Chann We, Dopatta and Lakht-e-Jiggar with Madam Noor Jehan. Punjabi film Morni in 1956 with Inayat Hussain Bhatti was her first film as solo heroine. Jabroowas a successful film with Akmal and Bharosa and Paharan with Yousuf Khan and Aadmi with Habib were other famous films. She had 58 films, 48 Urdu and 10 Punjabi films.

Yasmin's role as a prositute in semi art film Farishta (1961) was one of an unforgettable role in Pakistani cinemas history. Her role in Nizam Lohar (1966) was an another super class role. She will also be remembered for the mega hit song picturized on her "Dil deta hai ro ro duhai, kisi se koi pyar na karey..", which was sung by Mala and Sain Akhtar in film Ishq par zor nahin in 1963.

Her face was much resembled with indian film actress Madhubala. Her very first appearance in the film was Zeenat (1945 - Noor Jehan, Kiran dewan, Yaqoob and Shahnawaz) made by Shoukat Hussain Rizvi where she can be seen sitting among others in a ladies Qawwali scene "Ahein na bharien shikway na kiye, kuchh bhi na zaban se kam lia" sung by Noor Jehan, Zohra ambaley wali, Ameer bai karnatki and others. This was the first ever ladies qawwalli presented in any film. Yasmeen produced one film udner Y.S. (Yasmeen Shoukat) banner, Dunya na maney (Zeba, Mohammed Ali, Zumarrud, Lehri and Raagnee in 1971).

Yasmin married director and cameraman Jafar Bukhari and then studio owner and director Syed Shoukat Hussain Rizvi (who was ex-husband of Madam Noor Jehan).
